Brad and Angelina married in 2014 and split in 2016 when the actress filed for divorce following the plane incident
Brad Pitt’s relationship with his eldest son Maddox has been strained since they reportedly got into a heated altercation three years ago on a private plane the family were traveling in.
And now a new report sheds some light on the duo’s fractured relationship in the years following the incident, which was reportedly the trigger for Angelina Jolie, 44, filing for divorce from the Troy star.
A source says that the 18-year-old, who Angelina adopted from Cambodia in 2002 and Brad legally adopted four years later, remains very close with his mom.
It’s been previously claimed that the Fight Club star is a ‘big yeller’ when it comes to the six kids he shares with the actress.
Last Christmas Maddox and his younger brother Pax, 15, reportedly opted out of going to their father’s house to open presents with their younger siblings.
‘Maddox refused to go, and Pax didn’t go either,’ a source told the website at the time.
While there is reportedly some resentment that Maddox feels towards the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star, he is also said to be typically independent teenager anyway who is very ‘headstrong’.
‘[Maddox and Pax] spend more time with their friends and are busy doing their own thing,’ the insider revealed. ‘They spend less time than they used to with the younger kids and the family.
In 2016, when Angelina and Brad first split, it was claimed that an incident occurred between Brad and Maddox on the family’s private plane as they traveled home from Nice, France.
Reports at the time say the actor allegedly hit his son during a disagreement between the couple where Maddox got involved and tried to defend his mom.
A source at the time told People that Brad ‘was drunk, and there was an argument between him and Angelina,
‘There was a parent-child argument which was not handled in the right way and escalated more than it should have.’
The Brad source went on to deny that the actor hit his son.
‘He is emphatic that it did not reach the level of physical abuse, that no one was physically harmed. He did not hit his child in the face in any way. he did not do that; he is emphatic about that. He put his hands on him, yes, because the confrontation was spiraling out of control.’
The incident was investigated by the FBI and Brad was investigated by the LA Department of Children and Family Services. He was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Angelina kept physical custody of the children and the actors are currently still hashing out details of their divorce including custody details and have recently reached an amicable agreement where Brad gets more time with the kids.
Brad and Angelina, who married in 2014, have six children in total; Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11.
